It's a strange day for traders in financials, but look beneath the surface and it definitely looks like traders are unwinding positions...both long and short positions.
Look at the biggest cap names, all DOWN 1 to 2 percent:

U.S. regulators on Friday shuttered 1st American State Bank of Minnesota , in Hancock, pushing up U.S. bank failures to 16 so far in 2010.
This compares to total number of bank failures of 140 in 2009, 25 in 2008 and only 3 in 2007.
While we expect economic recovery to gain momentum soon, there remain lingering concerns in the banking industry.

Former IU basketball player Todd C. Leary was arrested Thursday night before the Indiana-Purdue basketball game in Bloomington on a 17-count Allen County warrant that alleges his involvement in a scheme that misappropriated more than $1 million in title funds to his benefit.

Elburn—Fifth Third Bancorp announced a donation of $100,000 to aid the American Red Cross International Response Fund.
The funds will go to assist Red Cross disaster relief efforts in Haiti, after reports of more than 3 million people have been affected by the devastating earthquake that hit the country January 12.
To further assist in these relief efforts, Fifth Third Financial Centers in Northwest Illinois will donate $25 to the American Red Cross for each new checking account opened ($100 minimum).
